Once the phone is connected you should automatically see it appear in the i Tunes application.

Restoring your i Pod erases all of its data and settings and returns it to the state it was in when you first got it.
You can also perform software updates and backups over Wi-Fi, whereas older i Pods and i Pod touches still need a wired connection to i Tunes.
If you have important data on your i Phone, you're suggested to back them up first.
